If your work involves staring at a computer for long periods, follow the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, take a 20-second break and look at something 20 feet (6 meters) away. Step over to a window and look at buildings, trees, cars, or any distant object. You can also step outside for a few minutes to relax your eyes. This habit helps reduce eye strain.
Maintain a Safe Distance from the Screen
Your monitor should be positioned 50–80 cm (20–31 inches) away from your eyes, at eye level. It’s recommended to sit with your back straight, shoulders relaxed and pulled back. This posture helps reduce eye tension.
Adjust Screen Brightness
Your screen’s brightness should create visual comfort, not strain. Avoid settings that are too bright or too dim. Proper brightness helps prevent eye fatigue.
Keep Your Eyes Moisturized
Most people forget to blink while working in front of a screen. Staring at a monitor for extended periods leads to dryness and eye fatigue. To avoid discomfort, consider using artificial tears after consulting with an eye care professional.
Read in a Well-Lit Room
Proper lighting is essential. Both low and overly bright lighting can strain your eyes. If possible, read in natural daylight for the best visual comfort.
