Light Therapy (IPL/LLLT) for Dry Eye

The most innovative and advanced treatment for dry eye syndrome, IPL directly addresses the root cause of the condition

Light therapy with IPL and LLLT is an effective system for treating dry eye syndrome which stimulates the lacrimal and meibomial glands in the eyelids (they form the protective layer of the tear film). This improves their secretion and function, and also normalizes the composition and quality of the tears. Unlike moisturizing drops, which only relieve symptoms, IPL/LLLT actually treats the underlying cause of the disease.

The combination of IPL and LLLT also supports rapid recovery from styes and meibomian gland cysts (eyelid cysts) . Light therapy reduces inflammation, swelling, and pain by stimulating the natural healing process and often prevents the need for surgical intervention.

At VISION, we have one of the few devices in Bulgaria that combine IPL (intense pulsed light) and LLLT (low-level light therapy). This combination stimulates the eyelid glands, reduces inflammation, and restores the eye’s natural moisture.

The Procedure

The procedure only takes a few minutes to significantly reduce the symptoms and after several sessions, they disappear completely. The procedure is gentle, effective, and has no age limitations.

  • It lasts only 15 minutes, with closed eyes, while the patient is seated comfortably

  • For best results, three consecutive sessions are recommended – 7 to 15 days apart

  • If necessary, a fourth session may be prescribed, based on your doctor’s assessment and the results from a digital examination with LacryDiag (a device for digital analysis of the ocular surface)

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light)

During IPL therapy, gentle light pulses are applied to the skin around the eyes to warm and unclog the meibomian glands, reduce inflammation, and improve tear quality. The procedure is completely non-invasive and feels like mild warm pulses on the skin.

LLLT (Low-Level Light Therapy)

LLLT uses soft red or near-infrared light that stimulates the eyelid tissues and glands, improves blood circulation, reduces inflammation, and helps the eyes produce natural and healthy tears again. The procedure is completely painless, relaxing, pleasant, and takes only a few minutes. We call it a “SPA” for the eyes.

In addition to the special LLLT mask for the eye area, we also offer an LLLT full-face mask. It uses the same safe light technology but with a broader range of action and a rejuvenating effect — improving skin elasticity, tone, and overall freshness.
