Assoc. Prof. Desislava Koleva is a well-known vitreoretinal specialist with many years of experience in the surgery of severe eye diseases — retinal detachment, macular holes, vitreous hemorrhages, diabetic retinopathy, ocular trauma, and other posterior segment eye conditions that are difficult to diagnose and treat.

Assoc. Prof. Koleva provides consultations and performs surgical treatment of cataracts, including complicated cataracts, as well as combined ophthalmic procedures. She works in several ophthalmic medical centers and is a lecturer at the Medical University of Plovdiv.

2001 – Graduated with a Master’s degree in Medicine from the Medical University of Plovdiv, awarded the “Golden Hippocrates” distinction of the class.

2006 – Obtained a specialty in Ophthalmology.

2010 – Received a Diploma of Excellence from the European Board of Ophthalmology (EBO).

2012 – Awarded the Educational and Scientific Degree “Doctor” (PhD) in Ophthalmology after defending a doctoral dissertation titled:
“Clinical assessment of diabetic macular edema using spectral optical coherence tomography.”

2018 – Received the Habilitation Diploma – Associate Professor in Ophthalmology.
