At VISION Clinic, we have the new, state-of-the-art Eidon device — a wide-angle camera that captures detailed images of the retina. It offers numerous advantages over the standard retinal camera: there is no need to dilate the patient’s pupils with drops beforehand, and it can capture images of the retina and optic nerve even in the presence of organic obstructions such as cataracts or vitreous opacities.
The images produced have excellent resolution, enhanced color, contrast, and brightness, providing eye specialists with the ability to diagnose and monitor various retinal diseases at a more advanced level. Patients receive digital color photo documentation of the retina covering a field of 90 to 160 degrees, including both the central area (macula and optic nerve) and the peripheral retina in great detail.
Eidon also has an image-stitching feature, called mosaic mode, which allows visualization of the retina up to 200 degrees — similar to assembling pieces of a puzzle. The use of a special filter during imaging provides highly valuable information about the nature, area, and progression of certain retinal conditions.
Eidon is extremely user-friendly, non-invasive (no intravenous contrast agents are used), completely safe for the patient, and requires relatively little time — yet it delivers essential data to the doctor for the treatment and monitoring of retinal diseases.
